East Wind Design (EWD) is a Wisconsin based floral design studio rooted in the belief that flowers have a way of making life’s moments feel even more meaningful.
Our designs are romantic, artful, and little unexpected. We create with movement, texture, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of each stem. Rather than following a formula, every arrangement is thoughtfully designed around the people, place, and feeling behind the occasion.
From intimate celebrations to full-scale weddings and events, our approach is always the same:
design with intention, choose quality over quantity, and care deeply about every detail.
Hi, I’m Kira
Hi, I’m Kira, the founder and floral designer behind East Wind Design.
For most of my life, I actually didn’t consider myself a creative person. I earned my degree in public health and always imagined my career would be somewhere in healthcare. But somewhere along the way, I found myself planning and curated events for nonprofit organizations, and for the first time, I discovered this creative side of myself that I hadn’t really known existed.
Throughout my life in events, I ended up falling in love with the details. I started to notice the way a room can completely transform, how thoughtful design changes the way people experience a space, and how seemingly small choices can make an event feel incredibly special.
And eventually, that love of creating led me to flowers.
Where It All Began
Looking back, flowers were always there.
My grandma, who was a big part of my life, was constantly creating floral arrangements around her home, and she had this incredible ability to make things beautiful simply because she loved doing it. I didn’t realize it at the time, but so much of my creativity started with her.
Years later, while planning my own wedding, celebrating alongside friends at theirs, and producing large-scale events, I found myself continually drawn to the flowers and the details that brought each space to life. Somewhere deep down, I knew I could create those beautiful moments, too.
And if you know me, you’ve probably heard me say, “Well, I could probably do that.” So eventually, I did. I started by offering to design flowers for friends’ weddings and quickly fell in love with the entire process. The planning, the preparation, seeing all of the details come together, and most of all, the designing.
What started as a simple “I could probably do that” became something I couldn’t imagine not doing.
Making Something Meaningful
For a long time, I questioned whether I was artistic enough to pursue floral design.
There are so many extraordinarily talented florists and artists in this industry, and it was easy to convince myself there wasn’t room for one more.
Even now, there are moments when I have to remind myself that creativity isn't about being like anyone else, it’s about having something of your own to offer.
Then, on Valentine’s Day of 2026, I experienced a profound loss that changed the way I thought about time, purpose, and the life I wanted to create.
It reminded me that life is far too short to keep waiting until you feel completely ready.
So, I began investing more deeply in EWD, learning whenever and wherever I could, including floral education in London.
I started building East Wind Design into the studio I had quietly been dreaming about for years.
The East Wind Approach
I don’t believe flowers should simply fill a space. They should belong there.
Every EWD project begins by understanding the larger picture: the architecture of the venue, the season, the color palette, the tablescape, the way guests will move through the room, and most importantly, the people being celebrated.
From there, we create florals that feel organic to the occasion rather than added on afterward.
You’ll find movement, texture, unexpected ingredients, beautiful seasonal blooms, and plenty of thoughtful details in our work. But you'll also find something just as important behind the scenes: organization, communication, kindness, and care.
Because beautiful flowers are only one part of a beautiful experience.
More Than Flowers
When you work with East Wind Design, you're not simply ordering arrangements. You're trusting me with a small piece of a day that is meaningful to you.
That is something I will never take lightly.
Whether I'm designing a bouquet you'll carry down the aisle, transforming a room for hundreds of guests, teaching a table full of friends how to arrange flowers, my hope is always the same: that the flowers make the moment feel even more special.
Outside the Studio
When I’m not surrounded by flowers, you’ll usually find me spending time with my husband, David, and our Australian Labradoodle, Fergie, in our new (very first!) home.
You’ll also find me traveling somewhere new (hopefully Tanzania next!), planning my next project (currently my garden), or listening to a playlist that makes absolutely no sense genre-wise (aka Harry Styles, Beyonce, Bad Bunny, Charley Crockett, Miley Cyrus, Tyler the Creator, Leon Bridges, Dolly Parton… the list goes on but I suppose I should be talking about flowers, not my choice in music…)
I’m endlessly inspired by nature, travel, fashion, and art. And one thing about me is that when I get inspired and an idea comes my way, I stop at nothing to make it a really (hence EWD).
Flowers Are Part Of The Memory
I know it may sound cliché to say that I do this for the joy it brings other people, but it’s true. Knowing that something I created gets to become a small part of someone’s most meaningful memories is something I will never take for granted.
But the process brings me just as much joy. The dreaming, the planning, the flowers scattered across my workspace, and the moment an idea finally comes to life. I found something in floral design that I didn’t know I was missing, and now I can’t imagine my life without it.
Those are the moments I want East Wind Design to be part of, and I feel incredibly lucky to create something I love so deeply for moments that mean so much to someone else.
